Authorities in New York City have released additional details about a serious early-morning crash in the Bronx that left a young woman dead and several others injured. The collision occurred Friday and involved a sedan and two commercial trucks along a stretch of Bruckner Boulevard near the Hunts Point Market, a busy area often filled with overnight and early-morning traffic.
Police confirmed that the woman who died was 29-year-old Angie Miguel, a resident of New Haven, Connecticut. Loved ones and community members are now mourning her sudden passing, while investigators continue working to understand exactly how the tragic sequence of events unfolded.
According to the findings shared so far, a white 2016 Infiniti sedan was traveling eastbound on the service road of Bruckner Boulevard shortly before 4:40 a.m. The preliminary assessment from the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad suggests that the sedan was moving at a high speed as it approached the intersection. At the same time, two trucks were ahead in the roadway, slowing down in preparation for a red light.
Investigators believe that as the Infiniti approached the intersection, the driver was unable to properly handle a curve in the roadway. The sedan then collided with the rear sections of the two trucks. The force of the impact caused the car to spin uncontrollably, eventually coming to a stop only after sustaining heavy damage. Police described the motion as the vehicle “rotating to the right,” consistent with losing traction or control during the attempted maneuver.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, finding multiple people injured inside the sedan. Miguel suffered critical injuries and did not survive despite prompt medical attention. Four additional individuals were transported to area hospitals. Their injuries were described as non-fatal, though the extent of their recovery has not yet been publicly detailed.
The drivers of the two trucks involved in the crash were not reported to have serious injuries. Both remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation, as is standard procedure in multi-vehicle collisions.
Accident reconstruction specialists continue to analyze the physical evidence, including vehicle positioning, roadway markings, and the condition of the vehicles. They are also reviewing environmental factors such as lighting conditions, traffic flow, and the roadway layout. While speed is considered a major factor, investigators will determine whether any additional elements contributed to the driver’s loss of control.
Crashes involving multiple vehicles—especially when commercial trucks are part of the sequence—can create particularly complicated scenarios. Often, specialists will examine braking patterns, impact angles, and tire markings to piece together the most accurate account of what took place in the seconds before the collision. Those findings help authorities determine whether charges, citations, or policy recommendations are appropriate.
The accident has sparked renewed conversations in the area about traffic safety around the Hunts Point Market and along Bruckner Boulevard, where heavy truck traffic and early-morning travel often overlap. Local residents and workers note that speeds on this service road can fluctuate, and some have urged for continued efforts to improve road safety, signage visibility, and traffic calming measures.
For now, the focus remains on the loss of Angie Miguel, whose life ended abruptly and tragically. Friends and family are being supported as they navigate the difficult days ahead, grieving someone described as young, vibrant, and deeply loved. Police have not announced any charges as the investigation remains ongoing, and more details are expected as the Collision Investigation Squad completes its review.
