Anthony Hobbs Obituary, Death – A hit-and-run accident on Monday night in Cumberland County claimed the life of a man who was possibly walking to get gas for his truck, authorities reported. The incident occurred just before 7:10 p.m. along N.C. 24, east of Fayetteville, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The victim, identified as 50-year-old Anthony Hobbs, was well-known in the Fayetteville area, especially for his pickup truck adorned with crosses. Hobbs had reportedly left his vehicle near N.C. 24 and Interstate 95 after informing others that he had run out of gas.
As Hobbs was walking west toward Fayetteville, in the middle of a lane near Downing Road, he was struck by a car and died at the scene. N.C. Trooper McBride explained that the driver responsible for the initial impact fled the scene. Additionally, at least one other vehicle hit Hobbs after he was already down, and that driver also failed to stop.
The authorities are continuing their investigation and seeking information about the drivers involved in this tragic hit-and-run.
