Antoinette Johnson Obituary, Death – Houston police are investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that took place early Thursday morning and claimed the life of Antoinette Johnson. Authorities are now seeking two drivers believed to be involved in the fatal incident.
The accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Almeda Road near Holmes Road. According to witnesses, Johnson had just left The Red Rooster club on Fuqua Street and was seen standing in the bed of a dark-colored pickup truck as it traveled northbound on Almeda Road at a high speed.
A man who witnessed the event said he noticed the woman in the back of the truck as he was driving along the same route. A few miles down the road, he saw her fall out of the truck bed onto the roadway. Immediately after, a dark-colored SUV drove over her. Shockingly, neither the truck nor the SUV stopped after the incident.
The witness and a friend—who is reportedly a nurse—pulled over to help. They blocked oncoming traffic to prevent further accidents and stayed with Johnson until emergency services arrived. She was rushed to a hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The witness emphasized that the stretch of road where Johnson fell is poorly lit, which could pose a danger to other motorists and may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
Johnson’s family has confirmed her identity and shared their grief with local media. They described her as a loving mother who was planning to take her 17-year-old son on college visits. Her untimely death has left the family devastated, especially given the bright future she had planned for herself and her son.
Now, police are urging anyone who has information about the two vehicles or their drivers to come forward. The investigation is focusing on identifying the driver of the truck Johnson fell from and the SUV that struck her. Authorities have made it clear that neither driver stopped to assist or report the incident, which is a serious offense under Texas law.
Houston police and Crime Stoppers are encouraging members of the public to share any tips that could help in identifying the drivers involved. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
This incident underscores the dangers of riding in unsecured parts of vehicles and the tragic consequences of hit-and-run accidents. As Johnson’s family mourns the loss of a mother, daughter, and friend, the community is being asked to help deliver justice by aiding in the police investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
