Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving two tractor-trailers that occurred Thursday morning in western Massachusetts, leaving one driver dead and raising questions about what caused the collision. Officials from the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the victim was 32-year-old Antonio Luis Marcucci of Waterbury, Connecticut.
According to authorities, the crash occurred around 9:09 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Main Road in the town of Otis, Massachusetts, a rural community in the southwestern part of the state.
Investigators said emergency responders arrived at the scene to find two heavily damaged tractor-trailers positioned on opposite sides of the roadway. One of the trucks, which carried Connecticut license plates, was located in the northbound lane, while the second truck, registered in Oklahoma, had come to rest in a snowbank on the southbound side.
Officials reported that the driver of the Connecticut tractor-trailer — later identified as Marcucci — was trapped inside the vehicle’s cab when first responders arrived.
