The incident occurred at precisely 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2025, on Sugar Bottom Road in Bland County, when Bradley S. Davis, 54, lost his life in a crash involving a homemade off-road vehicle.
According to police reports, Davis was driving the off-road vehicle, which was not equipped for highway use, on Sugar Bottom Road near the intersection with Waddle Town Road. While traveling along the road, Davis lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the left side of the roadway and down an embankment. The vehicle overturned during the incident, and both Davis and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
The police investigation revealed that Davis was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the accident. The passenger was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, though their condition was not disclosed at the time of the report.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police, and authorities are looking into the exact cause of the vehicle leaving the road. Police emphasized the dangers of not wearing seatbelts, as it likely contributed to the severity of the crash for both individuals involved.
