The fatal incident took place in the early hours of June 10, just before 2:30 a.m., on the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway, also known as State Route 1. According to investigators, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound in the right lane of the highway, approaching the intersection with White Oak Road, when the crash occurred.
At the time of the accident, Brandon Lemon was on the roadway in the Jeep’s lane of travel. Authorities noted that Lemon was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing and did not have any form of lighting or reflective gear to make himself visible to approaching vehicles. As a result, he was struck by the Jeep while in the right northbound lane.
The driver of the Jeep, a 63-year-old man from Berlin, Maryland, was not injured in the crash. No charges have been filed at this time, and police have not indicated that speed or impairment played a role. The investigation is ongoing.
