Brenda S. Starling Obituary, Death – A tragic house fire in Houston County on Monday night claimed the life of 70-year-old Brenda S. Starling. Starling was pronounced dead at the scene after her home in the Ratcliff area caught fire, according to Houston County Sheriff Zak Benge. She succumbed to injuries sustained from the blaze.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Starling’s family and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the multiple fire departments that responded to the emergency. These included the Crockett, Belott, Ratcliff, Hudson, Central, and Kennard Fire Departments.
The Houston County Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Fire Marshal Heath Murff indicated that while the exact cause is yet to be determined, an electric heater may have burned through the floor of the home. Murff also pointed out the absence of smoke detectors and the lack of multiple exits in the house, which may have contributed to the tragic outcome.
