Brendon Keys Obituary, Death – Jackson police are currently investigating a fatal crash involving a four-wheeler and two pickup trucks that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Brendon Keys. The tragic incident took place early Sunday morning on Gallatin Street near Interstate 20. Keys was riding as a passenger on the four-wheeler at the time of the collision. The driver of the ATV suffered critical injuries and was transported for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities have launched a search for one of the pickup trucks involved in the crash, which reportedly fled the scene. In memory of Keys, a makeshift memorial has been placed near the location where the fatal accident occurred, as the community mourns the loss.
Jamal Rizki, manager at Byram Motorsports Shop, emphasized the seriousness of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Rizki, whose shop specializes in selling these vehicles, warned that although they may appear recreational, ATVs are powerful machines that can pose serious risks if misused. He reminded the public that ATVs are not legal for use on public streets or highways and come with specific safety guidelines, including age and speed limits and strict recommendations against carrying passengers.
“These machines are not toys,” Rizki said. “Parents need to pay attention to safety and enforce restrictions, especially when it comes to their children riding these vehicles.”
Surveillance footage reviewed by 16 WAPT News captured the moment of the crash. In the video, a white pickup truck is seen striking the four-wheeler head-on. The impact caused the ATV to crash into a dark-colored SUV before landing on the opposite side of the highway. The video also shows a person, believed to be the pickup truck driver, approaching the scene and checking on the victims before leaving approximately five minutes later without offering further help or waiting for authorities.
Although the four-wheeler was not supposed to be on the road, Rizki pointed out that the initial evidence suggests the occupants of the ATV may not have been at fault for the collision. “As unfortunate as this is, the situation seems to show that the ATV riders were hit by another vehicle, possibly making them victims despite being in a place they shouldn’t have been,” Rizki stated.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about ATV safety, particularly regarding their use on public roads. Rizki’s comments have echoed the need for stricter enforcement and greater awareness among ATV owners and parents.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and Jackson police are urging anyone with information—especially regarding the white pickup truck seen in the footage—to come forward. Tips can be shared anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS. Authorities hope that public cooperation will help bring justice to Brendon Keys and provide answers to his grieving family.
