Brittany Miles, Olivia Alvarez Obituary, Death – A police chase in Iowa ended tragically on Sunday afternoon when a crash on Highway 218 claimed two lives. The Iowa State Patrol identified the drivers killed in the collision as 36-year-old Brittany Miles of Cedar Rapids and 27-year-old Olivia Alvarez.
The incident began at 3:15 p.m. in Muscatine after reports emerged of a woman firing shots at people. Authorities say Miles, the suspected shooter, refused to stop when an officer attempted to pull her over. This led to a pursuit that extended into Washington County, reaching Highway 218 about two miles south of Riverside.
According to police, Miles drove into oncoming traffic during the chase and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Alvarez. Miles died on impact, while Alvarez succumbed to her injuries despite life-saving efforts by first responders.
In addition to the fatal crash, an officer involved in the chase lost control of his vehicle and crashed near the Cedar River. He sustained injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. No injuries were reported from the earlier shooting incidents in Muscatine.
The investigation into the chase and crash is ongoing.
