Authorities have identified the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning along South Carolina Highway 27 in Dorchester County.
According to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office, the victim was 42-year-old Carey Nuzzolesse of Ridgeville. Officials said the crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m., and Nuzzolesse was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:47 a.m. Coroner Paul J. Brouthers said the specific cause of death has not yet been released. An autopsy has been scheduled as part of the standard investigative process.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. on SC-27 near Way Hall Road. Preliminary findings indicate that a 2012 Chevrolet sedan and a 2022 Ford SUV were both traveling north along the highway when the vehicles collided.
Investigators said the Ford SUV, driven by Nuzzolesse, was attempting to pass the sedan at the time of the crash. Authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision as part of the ongoing investigation.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist those involved. The driver of the Chevrolet sedan was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Two passengers who were traveling in the Ford SUV were also taken to the hospital for medical care. Officials have not released details about the extent of their injuries.
