Carl Jackson Obituary, Death – A man who was fatally shot in Louisville’s Algonquin neighborhood early Friday has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as 54-year-old Carl Jackson. Authorities say Jackson died from multiple gunshot wounds around 6 a.m., shortly after being taken to the hospital in critical condition.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) responded to the incident following a ShotSpotter alert around 4 a.m. in the 1600 block of Moore Court. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jackson suffering from several gunshot injuries. Emergency medical services transported him to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
As the investigation unfolded, LMPD identified and apprehended 45-year-old Antonio Whaley in connection to the shooting. He has been formally charged with multiple serious offenses, including murder, two counts of wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Each of these offenses is classified as a felony.
Following his arrest, Whaley was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections, where he remains in custody. Authorities have not released further details about a possible motive or the events that led to the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of violent crimes under review by Louisville police, highlighting concerns over gun violence in the area. The use of ShotSpotter technology, which automatically detects gunfire and alerts law enforcement, enabled officers to respond quickly to the scene, although it was ultimately too late to save the victim.
Community members are awaiting more information, as Jackson’s death has raised concerns among residents about neighborhood safety. LMPD has urged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
