The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened late Sunday afternoon on State Route 511, just south of U.S. Route 3.
Authorities said the collision occurred around 4 p.m. on September 14. A 2019 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was heading north on Route 511 when it encountered three motorcycles traveling south. According to troopers, one of the motorcycles, a 1995 Honda VF750C driven by 27-year-old Noah David Carmel Rogers of Shreve, Ohio, attempted to pass the other two bikes. In doing so, Rogers crossed the center line and collided head-on with the northbound pickup truck.
The impact of the crash was devastating. Rogers was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the most severe outcome in what authorities described as a preventable accident caused by a risky passing maneuver.
Another motorcyclist, a 50-year-old rider who was traveling alongside Rogers, lost control after the collision and veered off the west side of Route 511. He was ejected from his motorcycle but survived. Troopers confirmed that he was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were considered non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado also suffered injuries but was treated at the scene. Officials described them as minor, and the driver did not require hospitalization. The third motorcyclist involved was not reported to be injured.
The crash forced authorities to close down a portion of State Route 511 for about four hours as investigators worked to reconstruct the sequence of events, clear debris, and ensure the roadway was safe to reopen.
