Chance McCowin Obituary, Death – A tragic shooting in North Omaha has left one man dead and two others critically injured, according to the Omaha Police Department. The incident occurred just after midnight on Monday near North 24th Street and Patrick Avenue during a Native Omaha Days event. Authorities said that the gunfire broke out following a fight at the scene.
Emergency responders attempted to save 22-year-old Chance McCowin by performing CPR while transporting him to the hospital. Sadly, McCowin was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Two additional victims were also injured in the shooting. Police identified them as 32-year-old Dontavis Montgomery and 24-year-old Tai’Jianea Henderson. While both were initially reported in critical condition, officials later said they are now in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
The shooting sent shockwaves through the community, especially since it happened during a well-known local celebration. Police Capt. Ken Fox urged people to prioritize their safety, saying, “If your loved ones are down here, tell your loved ones to go home. Make sure your loved ones are home.” His comments reflect the level of concern authorities have over the potential for further violence during the event.
As of now, Omaha police have not released any information about possible suspects or arrests. Investigators are still working to determine who was involved in the shooting and what exactly led up to it. They are asking the public for help and encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
