Charles Chike Okafor Obituary, Death – Police have released details regarding the fatal stabbing of a man in Providence earlier this week.
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Charles Chike Okafor, was found with a stab wound to the torso inside an apartment on Bailey Court Monday night. He was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have charged Okafor’s housemate, 30-year-old Junior Medina Agosto, with first-degree murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. Agosto, who appeared in court on Tuesday, was denied bail and is currently being held in custody.
According to prosecutors, Okafor and Agosto lived in the same apartment but had separate bedrooms and shared a kitchen. Two witnesses stated that the two men were arguing over food in the kitchen prior to the incident.
Agosto told investigators that Okafor had attacked and tried to strangle him, prompting him to grab a knife and stab him once in self-defense. However, an autopsy revealed that Okafor had been stabbed twice, leading detectives to charge Agosto with murder.
This case marks Providence’s first homicide of the year. Agosto’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 28 as the investigation continues.
