Christopher Tran Obituary, Death – A tragic fire in San Jose has claimed the life of a local business owner, 51-year-old Christopher Tran. Tran was identified as the person who died in an arson fire that destroyed the building housing his marketing company, BrandingOut. The blaze occurred early Sunday morning in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood and gutted the two-story structure that contained both Tran’s business and another company.
Initially, firefighters were unable to enter the building due to the risk of collapse. It wasn’t until Monday that authorities discovered Tran’s body among the wreckage. Following the discovery, police arrested 35-year-old Yessenia Estrada of San Jose, who is now facing charges of felony arson and involuntary manslaughter. She is currently on a psychiatric hold, and her arraignment, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed to Friday.
Tran’s family and friends are devastated by the loss. His mother, Vicky Huynh, spoke tearfully outside the courthouse, expressing the overwhelming pain of losing her son. “I hurt, but I don’t know how to explain how hurting I am right now,” she said, struggling to describe her grief. Huynh recalled speaking with Tran almost daily, including a final conversation on Saturday night when he mentioned staying late at work in preparation for a vacation.
Tran was known among friends and colleagues as a dedicated entrepreneur who often worked late hours, sometimes overnight. When he couldn’t be reached after the fire, his loved ones grew concerned. Friends described him as hardworking, generous, and passionate about the outdoors and running in his free time.
The delay in identifying Tran as a victim stemmed from early reports that no one had been hurt in the fire. However, Tran’s family informed authorities that he might have been inside, prompting a renewed search of the burned structure. San Jose Police spokesperson Officer Tanya Hernandez explained that this information from family members led to the discovery of his body.
On Tuesday, BrandingOut, Tran’s company specializing in print and digital marketing, announced on Instagram that it would be temporarily closed due to the tragedy.
Investigators pieced together evidence from witness statements and security footage to identify Estrada as the suspect. Police confirmed she is unhoused. This fire-related death marks San Jose’s 14th homicide of 2025.
