Clay Carns Obituary, Death – An Illinois State Police trooper tragically lost his life Monday night after being struck by a vehicle while clearing debris on Interstate 55 near Channahon in Will County. Trooper Clay Carns, 35, was outside his squad car near Blodgett Road around 9:45 p.m. when the incident occurred.
Emergency responders transported Carns to St. Joseph Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. Carns, an 11-year veteran of the force, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and two young children. The tragedy struck just days before Christmas, amplifying the heartbreak for his loved ones and colleagues.
ISP Director Brendan Kelly expressed the profound loss, stating, “Any time we lose a trooper it hurts, but today, Christmas Eve, it stings in a particularly painful way.”
