Louisiana State Police (LSP) are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 20 and resulted in the deaths of two men. According to LSP, the crash happened on February 12 shortly after 10 a.m. Authorities identified the victims as 46-year-old Clinton Warren of Alabama and 45-year-old Nelson Okuoimose of Arizona.
Preliminary findings indicate that Warren was driving a blue 2012 Freightliner westbound on I-20 while transporting a manufactured home. At the same time, a white 2013 Freightliner pulling a box trailer was also traveling westbound in the right lane.
Investigators say that, for reasons still under review, the blue Freightliner veered to the right and struck the white Freightliner. Following the initial collision, both vehicles reportedly traveled left into the median before striking a bridge support at the Vancil Road overpass.
State police reported that Warren and Okuoimose sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities noted that neither individual was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the white Freightliner, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries, according to officials.
LSP stated that impairment is not currently suspected as a factor in the crash. However, as part of standard procedure in fatal crashes, toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.
The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Authorities have indicated that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
