North Philadelphia, Pen. (SOCIETY ALERT) – Police in Philadelphia have confirmed the identity of a man found dead inside the trunk of a stolen car earlier this week. Authorities said the victim is 27-year-old Malik Tribble, a resident of Philadelphia.
The discovery was made on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, when officers responded to a 911 call regarding a suspicious, unattended Dodge Charger parked on the 2000 block of North Bambrey Street. According to investigators, the car had previously been reported stolen. When police arrived at the scene, they noted a strong, foul odor coming from the vehicle.
Officers forced open the trunk and found a decomposing body wrapped in a sheet. Medics were quickly called to the location and confirmed the individual was deceased. The remains were later identified as Tribble.
The Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined that Tribble had died from multiple gunshot wounds. His death has officially been classified as a homicide. Investigators have not released information regarding possible suspects, motives, or circumstances leading up to the crime.
At this stage, no arrests have been made. Police emphasized that the case remains an active investigation, and they are urging anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward. Members of the public can contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit directly at 215-686-3334. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the city’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS.
To encourage cooperation, authorities announced that a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that results in both an arrest and a conviction. Police stressed that even small details could prove crucial in solving the case and bringing justice to Tribble’s family.
The grim discovery adds to ongoing concerns about violent crime in Philadelphia, where law enforcement has been contending with a series of homicides and shootings throughout the year. The case has drawn significant attention because of the disturbing circumstances under which the body was found—hidden inside the trunk of a stolen vehicle left abandoned in a residential neighborhood.
Neighbors in the area were unsettled by the incident, with many expressing concern about safety in their community. While police have not disclosed how long the stolen car had been parked on the block, the strong odor led officers to believe the body had been there for some time before being discovered.
Authorities say they are piecing together Tribble’s last known movements to better understand when and where the fatal shooting occurred. Detectives are also reviewing surveillance footage from the area and checking for witnesses who may have seen the stolen vehicle being abandoned.
As the investigation continues, police are urging residents to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. They reiterated their commitment to pursuing every lead in order to resolve the case and hold those responsible accountable.
Tribble’s death marks yet another tragedy for a city struggling with ongoing gun violence, and police say they are determined to ensure that justice is served.
