The fatal incident occurred on Saturday, June 28, along U.S. Route 20, just east of Shattuck Road, which is located east of Belvidere. Ruf was reportedly walking in the area when he was hit by an oncoming semi-truck. Emergency responders arrived on scene shortly after the collision, but Ruf was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
An autopsy was performed on Monday, June 30. The results confirmed that Ruf died due to multiple injuries sustained in the crash. Further details about the nature of the injuries were not released.
