Drevantae Maurice Lewis Obituary, Death – Hazel Crest police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man that took place late Friday night. The incident unfolded on June 20 around 11:55 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the 18500 block of Michael Court following reports of a loud party in the area.

While officers were on scene working to break up the gathering, they suddenly heard a burst of gunfire nearby, described as coming from an automatic weapon. Multiple 911 calls soon followed, alerting police to gunshots being fired in another area — specifically the 3900 block of Edgewater.

Responding to those calls, officers discovered a vehicle with a young man inside who had been shot. Emergency personnel quickly responded, and the man was transported to Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at 12:46 a.m. on June 21.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Drevantae Maurice Lewis, a resident of the 900 block of 174th Street. According to the medical examiner, the shooting itself took place in the 18050 block of Michael Court — the same general area as the initial party report. Lewis suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and his death has been officially ruled a homicide.

At this time, Hazel Crest police, along with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, are actively investigating the case. No suspects have been taken into custody, and authorities have not released any information regarding a possible motive or if Lewis was targeted.

Detectives are working to gather evidence, speak with witnesses, and review any surveillance footage that may help in identifying those responsible for the shooting. Investigators have not stated whether the incident is connected to the party that was being dispersed when the gunfire erupted.

The community has been shaken by the violent death of a young man, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the case remains open.

Lewis’s death marks another instance of gun violence impacting local communities and underscores the dangers that can arise even in seemingly routine situations, such as responding to a noise complaint. The Hazel Crest Police Department is expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses and more details become available.

Anyone with tips related to the shooting is encouraged to contact Hazel Crest police or the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek justice for the victim and answers for his grieving family.
