Emirt Rivera Barrera Obituary, Death – A tragic crash on Highway 70 in Yuba County claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy over the weekend, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities identified the victim as Emirt Rivera Barrera of Olivehurst. The fatal incident occurred on Saturday near the Feather River Boulevard exit on northbound Highway 70.
According to CHP, the crash involved a Honda Pilot that veered off the freeway, overturned, and came to rest about 50 feet down a dirt embankment. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and found Barrera unresponsive. He had been a passenger in the vehicle.
Two other individuals were inside the overturned SUV. While they sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Barrera’s condition was critical. Despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators determined that the crash was triggered by another vehicle making an unsafe lane change, which caused the driver of the Honda to lose control. It remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
