According to Rockford police, the shooting occurred just after midnight, around 12:20 a.m., in the 2700 block of Broadway. Officers initially responded to a report of a walk-in shooting victim at a local hospital, where the victim, Austin, was brought for treatment but was declared dead shortly after arriving.
The shooting took place during a confrontation in the parking lot of Broadway Food & Liquor, located at 2710 Broadway. According to reports, a fight escalated into gunfire in the parking lot, leading to Austin’s fatal injuries. After the shooting, he was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital, where he received medical care for his gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m. by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
