Fabian Vitolas Obituary, Death – Officials have confirmed that a fatal crash occurred Saturday night in south Lubbock County, resulting in one death and two injuries. The crash, which took place around 9:35 p.m. on U.S. Highway 87 near County Road 7150, involved two vehicles and has been under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deceased victim has been identified as 36-year-old Fabian Vitolas of New Home. According to investigators, Vitolas was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche westbound on County Road 7150 when he failed to stop at the intersection with U.S. 87. Continuing onto the highway, the Avalanche was struck on its driver’s side by a 2017 Dodge Durango that was traveling northbound on U.S. 87.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Vitolas was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He was the only fatality in the incident.
The driver of the Dodge Durango, identified as 40-year-old Amanda Rodriguez of Lubbock, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. She was promptly transported to University Medical Center (UMC) for treatment. The passenger in the Avalanche, 22-year-old Christopher Dunn from Carlsbad, New Mexico, suffered more serious injuries. He, too, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was taken to UMC for medical attention.
At this stage of the investigation, it is unclear whether other factors contributed to the crash. Authorities have not provided further details on potential causes beyond Vitolas’ failure to stop at the intersection. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to gather additional information and determine the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has continued to urge anyone with information about the crash to come forward, and they are working diligently to understand the full scope of the incident. As the investigation progresses, more details may be released to the public.
