Francisco Sicairos Leon, Miguel Macias Obituary, Death News – Two men who lost their lives in a deadly truck crash on Interstate 10 in Cathedral City have been officially identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office. The victims were 58-year-old Francisco Sicairos Leon from Desert Hot Springs and 49-year-old Miguel Macias from Santa Ana. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal accident occurred Thursday morning around 6:40 a.m. near Date Palm Drive. According to authorities, a semi-truck traveling westbound on I-10 suddenly veered across the center divider and overturned into the eastbound lanes, colliding with multiple vehicles. A dashcam video from a nearby driver captured the moment the big rig lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer David Torres provided an update on the crash, confirming that the truck driver survived but sustained injuries. Torres stated that the driver was not experiencing any medical issues at the time of the crash. Additionally, no mechanical failure such as a blown tire was reported, and the driver was not impaired by drugs or alcohol. Despite ruling out these common causes, investigators are still trying to determine the reason the truck crossed the median.

The violent crash triggered a chain reaction involving several other vehicles, leading to a temporary shutdown of all eastbound lanes. Authorities have not released the exact number of other individuals injured or the severity of their injuries. Emergency personnel responded quickly to tend to the victims and begin an investigation.

As the morning progressed, lanes 1 and 2 reopened at approximately 9:00 a.m., but it wasn’t until 2:20 p.m. that the highway was fully reopened to traffic. During that time, CHP officers remained on site to collect evidence and piece together the sequence of events that led to the crash. Cleanup crews also worked to remove the wreckage from the roadway and restore safe driving conditions.

This tragic incident has deeply impacted the community, especially the families of the two men who lost their lives. As the investigation continues, authorities hope to provide clarity on what caused the semi-truck to swerve so abruptly, resulting in a multi-vehicle pileup and two confirmed fatalities.
