Germain Merilan Obituary, Death – A 32-year-old man who drowned in the Clackamas River near Carver Park in late July has been identified as Germain Merilan of Gresham, according to a statement released by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
Authorities confirmed that Merilan’s death was due to accidental drowning. The incident took place on the evening of July 27, when a woman, later identified as Merilan’s wife, contacted emergency services after her husband disappeared underwater near 14888 S Springwater Avenue. She reported that he had gone under around 6:45 p.m. and had not resurfaced for approximately 30 minutes.
Following the emergency call, the Clackamas County Water Rescue team quickly responded to the location along with American Medical Response (AMR) personnel. After conducting a search of the area, the rescue team recovered Merilan’s body about half an hour after the initial report.
The medical examiner later confirmed that the cause of death was drowning and classified it as accidental. Authorities have not released any additional details surrounding the circumstances of the drowning, including what may have caused Merilan to go under or whether he had any known medical conditions at the time.
