Gregory Conroy Ingrassia Obituary, Death – A man who was fatally struck by a train in San Rafael on Monday afternoon has been identified as Gregory Conroy Ingrassia, a 54-year-old from San Rafael. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) train collided with Ingrassia near the intersection of North San Pedro Road and Los Ranchitos Road.

According to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division, the train’s engineer noticed Ingrassia on the tracks and immediately tried to avoid the collision. The engineer activated the train’s emergency brakes and sounded the warning horn, but despite these efforts, the train struck Ingrassia. The collision resulted in blunt force injuries, and Ingrassia was found unconscious and unresponsive at the scene. Emergency responders declared him dead shortly thereafter.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Ingrassia did not move away from the tracks in time to avoid the approaching train. However, the cause of the collision is still under investigation, and no conclusions have been drawn yet. The authorities are conducting routine toxicology tests and a forensic postmortem examination as part of the investigation.

Both the San Rafael Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office are working together to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. The collision has raised concerns about pedestrian safety along the railway, and the investigation is ongoing to understand whether any other factors contributed to the incident.
