Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam Obituary, Death – Plano police have released the identities of both the victim and suspect in a deadly domestic-related incident that unfolded across two cities this week. The victim, 24-year-old Hammta Shafiye-Mogadam of Bedford, was found dead on Wednesday inside a high-end apartment in the Legacy West area of Plano. According to investigators, she was in a relationship with the suspect, 26-year-old Ladavian Kaliq Pearson of Plano, and authorities believe the homicide was not a random act of violence.
Plano officers responded to an apartment in the 6000 block of Water Street around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a call for a welfare check. Inside the apartment, they found Shafiye-Mogadam deceased on the floor. No one else was present at the scene.
The case quickly led police to identify Pearson as a suspect. On Thursday, a day after the homicide, police located Pearson in Euless. A patrol officer noticed his vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Fuller Wiser Road around noon.
Plano detectives, who had arrived to assist, confronted Pearson, but according to a statement from Euless police, he failed to follow commands and posed an “immediate threat” to officers. An exchange of gunfire occurred, during which Pearson was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the incident.
Residents in both cities expressed shock and sadness at the developments. Christo Jones, who lives in the Plano apartment complex where Shafiye-Mogadam was found, described being alarmed by the large police presence and said he often saw the victim’s family around the property.
“I’ve never seen that many police cruisers in this area,” he told CBS News Texas. “You wouldn’t think something like this would happen here. It’s tragic.”
The Plano Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is continuing to lead the homicide investigation, while the Euless Police Department is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Both investigations remain ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the killing or how long the couple had been in a relationship. The case has raised community concerns about domestic violence and safety even in upscale residential areas.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Plano Police Department to assist with the ongoing investigation.
