Homer Tyson Obituary, Death – A tragic crash in Tift County, Georgia, on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of three people — a woman and two young children. The deadly collision occurred along GA 520, also known as U.S. Highway 82, near mile marker 4.
According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the two-vehicle accident took place at approximately 12:12 p.m. Investigators say a 2023 Ram 2500 pickup truck, which was towing a trailer, was traveling east when it crossed over the median into the westbound lanes. The truck collided front-left with a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica that was headed west on the highway.
Following the impact, both vehicles veered off the north side of the road. The force of the collision caused the pickup truck to overturn, ejecting a 4-year-old passenger during the rollover. The truck ultimately landed on its right side, while the Chrysler Pacifica came to a stop on the north shoulder of the road, facing east.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 34-year-old Homer Tyson from Leesburg, Georgia. Emergency responders transported the ejected 4-year-old from his truck to Tift Regional Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The Chrysler Pacifica was driven by 52-year-old Rebecca Baker of Tifton. Inside the van were four children, aged 2, 5, 7, and 10. According to GSP, Baker, along with the 2-year-old and 5-year-old passengers, were ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
The surviving children also sustained injuries. The 7-year-old was taken by ambulance to Tift Regional Hospital and is expected to recover. The 10-year-old, however, suffered more severe injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, for further treatment.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) has joined the investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash. At this time, officials have not stated what caused the pickup truck to veer into oncoming traffic.
Authorities continue to investigate all contributing factors as they work to piece together the moments leading up to this devastating crash.
