Ismael David Hernandez-Pernia Obituary, Death – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has identified a 25-year-old man who died in a motorcycle accident early Monday morning in Katy. The victim, Ismael David Hernandez-Pernia, was riding a black 2025 Kawasaki Ninja 500 when he tragically fell 90 feet from an elevated highway connector ramp.
The incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. as Hernandez-Pernia was traveling east on the Katy Freeway. The crash happened on the elevated connector ramp linking Interstate 10 to Highway 99, also known as the Grand Parkway South. According to officials, while navigating a right-hand curve on the ramp, Hernandez-Pernia failed to stay within his lane and collided with a concrete barrier on the northwest side of the road. The impact caused him to be thrown from his motorcycle, resulting in a fall of approximately 90 feet from the elevated roadway.
A passing driver noticed the motorcycle lying on its side near the wall and immediately contacted emergency services out of concern for the rider. When first responders arrived, they found Hernandez-Pernia at the bottom of the elevated ramp with no signs of life.
This incident was one of several motorcycle crashes reported in Harris County that same morning. Nearby, another motorcyclist crashed in the managed lanes of the Katy Freeway close to Park Ten Boulevard. Although that crash caused traffic delays for morning commuters, it was not considered fatal, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
In a separate incident taking place around the same time, deputies responded to a fatal crash in Atascocita. There, 29-year-old Triston Dale died when his 2007 Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Jeep on Atascocita Road. The Sheriff’s Office reported that Dale may have been speeding before hitting the front right corner of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
These incidents highlight a dangerous start to the week on Harris County roadways, particularly involving motorcycles. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the causes of the accidents, but investigations remain ongoing.
Motorcyclists are often at greater risk in collisions due to the lack of protective barriers compared to standard vehicles. These recent crashes underscore the importance of cautious driving, especially during early morning hours and in elevated or high-speed roadway areas.
Officials urge all drivers—motorcyclists and motorists alike—to stay alert, follow speed limits, and maintain safe lane discipline. These precautionary measures are vital for reducing the likelihood of serious accidents.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to gather information and encourages anyone with details about these crashes to come forward. Meanwhile, the families of both Hernandez-Pernia and Dale are left grieving the loss of their loved ones in these tragic events.
