Lincoln police have released the identity of the motorcyclist who lost his life in a tragic crash that occurred Sunday evening in the northeastern part of the city. The victim has been identified as Jackson Gartee, a Lincoln resident, who died after colliding with an SUV at the busy intersection of 90th and Adams Streets.

According to the crash report provided by the Lincoln Police Department (LPD), the fatal accident took place shortly before 5:30 p.m. Authorities explained that the collision happened when a northbound SUV, driven by a Lincoln woman, attempted to cross Adams Street after stopping at the intersection. Investigators said the driver noticed the motorcycle approaching but believed there was enough distance for her to safely cross. Tragically, her judgment proved wrong, and the motorcycle slammed into the SUV in the intersection.

Police reports indicate that speed played a critical role in the crash. Witnesses told investigators that Gartee’s motorcycle was moving at an estimated 80 miles per hour, far above normal speed limits in the area. This excessive speed reduced the motorcyclist’s ability to react in time to the SUV, leaving little chance to avoid the collision. The impact was severe enough to cause fatal injuries, and Gartee was pronounced dead following the crash.

The SUV driver, whose name has not been released by police, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. Initial findings show that she did see the motorcycle but assumed it was still far enough away to allow her to safely cross. Unfortunately, the motorcycle’s high speed drastically shortened the reaction window, leading to the tragic outcome.

Police emphasized that speeding remains a leading factor in deadly motorcycle accidents. Unlike cars, motorcycles offer little protection during collisions, making crashes at high speeds especially dangerous. Authorities say this incident highlights the risks posed when riders exceed posted limits, as even small miscalculations at such speeds can have devastating results.

Residents of Lincoln have expressed shock and sadness over the news. Many described the intersection of 90th and Adams as a particularly busy area that requires extra caution from drivers and riders alike. The crash has sparked renewed conversations about motorcycle safety, the importance of defensive driving, and the dangers of speeding on city streets.

The Lincoln Police Department has not announced whether any charges will be filed against the SUV driver, but they continue to review all evidence, including witness statements and crash reconstruction details. For now, investigators have pointed primarily to the motorcyclist’s high speed as the main contributing factor.

As the community processes the sudden loss, officials are urging all motorists to remain alert and cautious on the road. They stressed that accidents like this one demonstrate how quickly situations can turn tragic when speed and misjudgment collide.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
