James William Johns Obituary, Death: Motorcycle crash leaves one dead in Henry County

James William Johns Obituary, Death – A motorcyclist died following a crash in Henry County, Virginia, that occurred on Wednesday, June 18, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). Authorities responded to the accident scene on A.L. Philpott Highway, just east of G.W. Drive, after receiving reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

Investigators said the crash happened when a 2018 Acura MDX attempted to make a left turn out of a crossover onto A.L. Philpott Highway, heading east. At the same time, a motorcycle traveling in the same direction at a high speed struck the rear of the Acura.

The motorcyclist, identified as 58-year-old James William Johns of Martinsville, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, Johns died from his injuries several days later, on Sunday, June 22.

The driver of the Acura was not hurt in the collision.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the crash, but no charges have been reported at this time. Authorities have not released further information about contributing factors beyond the motorcyclist’s reported speed.
