Javion Giovanni Crim Obituary, Death – An 18-year-old man from Temple lost his life Monday morning after a high-speed police chase ended in a fiery crash on the IH-35 service road in Belton, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The incident unfolded just before 10 a.m., when a DPS Trooper attempted to pull over a motorcyclist on eastbound Interstate 14 for driving recklessly and speeding. Authorities said the motorcyclist, later identified as Javion Giovanni Crim, refused to stop and instead accelerated to flee. During the chase, Crim merged onto northbound Interstate 35, reportedly reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
Crim exited the highway at Midway Drive, ran a red light, and continued racing down the service road, weaving dangerously between vehicles. Due to the growing risk to public safety and increasingly heavy traffic, the Trooper made the decision to back off the pursuit and lost visual contact with the motorcycle.
Shortly after losing sight of the fleeing rider, the Trooper came upon a crash scene involving a motorcycle engulfed in flames. Upon further investigation, officials determined that Crim had collided with the rear of an 18-wheeler at a high speed. The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames.
Emergency medical teams rushed Crim to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in critical condition. Despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the pursuit and crash.
