Jaylan Gray West: A 17-year-old from Lumberton has been identified as the suspect in a fatal incident that occurred late Friday night. Police announced Monday that Jaylan Gray West is wanted in connection with the death of 44-year-old Billy Ray Huggins, also of Lumberton. West is facing charges of first-degree murder.
The incident took place at 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the parking lot of Atkinson’s Cigarette Land on West 5th Street. According to investigators, an argument between West and Huggins escalated into violence. West, driving a burgundy Chevrolet pickup truck, allegedly got into his vehicle and intentionally struck Huggins before fleeing the scene.
Authorities are actively searching for West and have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact Detective David Bullock of the Lumberton Police Department at (910) 671-3845. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
