Jessica Baldoz Obituary, Death – A tragic domestic violence incident in Chesapeake has left one woman dead and two police officers injured. Authorities have identified the victim as Jessica Baldoz, who was fatally shot during a violent confrontation linked to her long-standing relationship with the suspect.
According to Chesapeake police, the events unfolded late Wednesday night when officers were dispatched to respond to a domestic assault call at Baldoz’s residence. Dispatch records indicate that the call was urgent, with clear signs of danger. As officers approached the home, they reportedly heard Baldoz screaming for help inside. In an effort to reach her, officers began attempting to breach the front door. Before they could enter, gunfire erupted from within the residence, with shots piercing the door and striking two officers.
Despite being injured, the officers survived and were later transported for treatment. Baldoz, however, was found dead at the scene from a gunshot wound. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Shaun M. Boker, was her long-time boyfriend.
Court records reveal a troubling history of alleged abuse between Baldoz and Boker. In May 2024, Baldoz filed a criminal complaint stating that Boker was her long-term partner and had previously lived with her from March 2024 until February 2025. During that time, she had filed multiple domestic assault charges against him—three in total—including one tied to an incident in November. Protective orders had also been issued in an attempt to keep him away from her.
Authorities say the standoff following the shooting lasted nearly 12 hours. After fleeing the scene, Boker barricaded himself inside a location in Portsmouth. Police negotiators and tactical teams surrounded the area, eventually bringing the standoff to an end with his arrest.
Boker now faces an extensive list of charges, including first-degree murder for Baldoz’s death, attempted murder of a law enforcement officer for the injuries inflicted on the two responding officers, and other related offenses. Prosecutors have stated that the case will likely proceed as a high-priority criminal prosecution given the severity of the crimes and the fact that the victims include both a civilian and law enforcement personnel.
Further examination of court documents reveals that Boker has a prior history of domestic violence allegations involving other partners. In 2018, another woman accused him of domestic assault, leading to a criminal charge and the issuance of a protective order. This pattern of reported abuse suggests a long-standing history of violent behavior toward intimate partners.
Investigators are continuing to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the deadly shooting. Chesapeake police have urged anyone with additional information about Boker’s past or the events of that night to come forward to assist in the investigation.
