Joan Jepngetich Obituary, Death – On Christmas night, Carl Sandburg College cross country athlete Joan Jepngetich, a 24-year-old sophomore from Kenya, tragically died in a car crash on Interstate 80.
According to officials, Jepngetich was driving east on I-80 when her vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether there were any passengers in the vehicle. Illinois State Police are investigating the incident, with further details expected as the investigation progresses.
Jepngetich was a standout athlete for Carl Sandburg College. Her athletic achievements included being named All-Arrowhead Conference, All-Region 4, and placing 64th at the NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships this past season. In a Facebook post, the college expressed its sorrow over her loss, describing her as beloved by many. “Joan was loved by many, and our college community is grieving this loss.
