Jorge Carmona Obituary, Death – Authorities in Waukegan have seized two vehicles and identified two drivers involved in a hit-and-run that led to the death of a 17-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle. The incident occurred on November 10, and police have been investigating the case since.

Around 12:45 a.m. on that day, the Waukegan Police Department and Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash with injuries in the area of Belvidere Road and Fulton Avenue. Upon arriving, emergency responders found a male victim who had been struck by a vehicle. Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek confirmed that the victim, later identified as Jorge Carmona, 17, of Waukegan, was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit spent several hours investigating the hit-and-run, as Carmona’s body was found in the middle of Belvidere Road. Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain revealed that the investigation found Carmona had been riding his bicycle in the westbound lanes of traffic when he was first struck by a vehicle. A second vehicle then hit him while he was still in the roadway. Both vehicles fled the scene.

Through their investigation, authorities identified two vehicles of interest in the case. One of the vehicles was located on November 13 in Waukegan. Police obtained a search warrant, seized the vehicle, and processed it for evidence. A passenger in the vehicle was interviewed and confirmed that the crash had occurred, though the driver has not yet been interviewed and is still being sought for questioning.

The second vehicle of interest was found on November 14 in Vernon Hills. Like the first, this vehicle was seized, towed to the Waukegan Police Department, and processed for evidence. The driver was interviewed and admitted to hitting something with their vehicle but did not initially clarify the details of the incident.

As the investigation continues, the case will be reviewed by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine potential charges. Authorities are working to locate both drivers involved in the fatal crash and bring them to justice for their role in the hit-and-run death of Jorge Carmona.
