Jose Ajanel Suar, Melissa Ajanel Suar Obituary, Death – On Friday afternoon, a tragic two-vehicle collision in Omaha claimed the lives of two young family members and injured several others. The Omaha Police Department (OPD) identified the victims late Sunday as 10-year-old Melissa Ajanel Suar and 18-year-old Jose Ajanel Suar. Both were pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which occurred shortly before 12:45 p.m. on Pacific Street near the Interstate 680 interchange.
According to OPD, the accident involved a Toyota pickup truck and a small black Chevrolet SUV carrying multiple passengers. Investigators reported that the Chevrolet was traveling westbound on Pacific Street, while the Toyota was headed eastbound. As the Toyota attempted a left turn onto the I-680 onramp, it collided with the Chevrolet. The impact forced the Chevrolet down a hill, where it struck a utility pole.
The driver of the pickup truck was the only person inside the vehicle at the time, while the Chevrolet was carrying a total of seven occupants. Both Melissa and Jose, who were inside the Toyota, suffered fatal injuries. Emergency crews pronounced them dead at the crash site.
Five other individuals involved in the collision sustained injuries of varying severity. They were transported to three separate medical facilities: Children’s Hospital, CHI-Bergan Mercy, and Nebraska Medicine. Authorities stated that the driver of the Chevrolet sustained only minor injuries.
Following the crash, police closed both directions of Pacific Street at the bridge over I-680. Eastbound lanes were shut down at 114th Street to allow for emergency response, accident reconstruction, and debris removal. The roadway remained closed for several hours and was reopened to traffic around 4 p.m. on Friday.
Authorities have not yet provided details on the possible causes of the crash, and the incident remains under active investigation. No charges have been announced, and police have not released information on whether speed, distraction, or other factors may have played a role.
The Omaha Police Department expressed condolences to the victims’ family and acknowledged the cooperation of emergency medical teams, local hospitals, and traffic control personnel in managing the aftermath of the collision. Residents in the area reported significant traffic delays as drivers were rerouted, but many expressed understanding given the severity of the incident.
The loss of Melissa and Jose Ajanel Suar has left family, friends, and community members grieving. Community members have begun offering condolences and support to the affected family as they cope with the sudden tragedy.
As the investigation continues, OPD urges any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage of the crash to come forward to assist in determining exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision. This remains a developing case, and further updates are expected as more details become available.
