Joshua Conway Obituary, Death – The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of two men who were discovered dead after an apparent hostage situation in Polo, Illinois. Authorities say 19-year-old Joshua Conway, a resident of rural Polo, died from what appears to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Alongside him, investigators also found 29-year-old Michael Gul, of Wauconda, deceased inside the same home.
The incident unfolded late Saturday night when deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of West Mason Street in Polo. Upon arrival, officers began to piece together a troubling situation.
According to the sheriff’s office, it was later determined that Conway had been holding a woman at gunpoint inside the residence. Fortunately, the woman managed to escape the house safely, along with others who were present in the home at the time of the incident. Authorities did not report any injuries to the woman or the other household members.
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement officials conducted a search of another property that was linked to Conway. The details of what was discovered at that second location have not yet been released, but officials stated that the search was part of the ongoing investigation into the deadly events.
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet shared a potential motive for the incident or clarified the relationship between Conway, Gul, and the other people in the home. It remains unclear whether Gul was involved in the hostage situation or was another victim of the events that unfolded that night.
The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of both Conway and Gul, and the hostage situation that preceded the tragic outcome. No further information has been released at this time, and authorities have asked anyone with relevant details to come forward to assist in their investigation.
