Juan Parga Martinez Obituary, Death – El Paso police have identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a vehicle on Monday afternoon near the Paso del Norte bridge. The incident occurred at the intersection of Santa Fe Street and Paisano Drive, when 67-year-old Juan Parga Martinez, a resident of Juarez, attempted to cross the street despite the pedestrian “walk sign” not being on.

According to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD), Martinez was hit by a 2019 GMC Sierra pickup truck while crossing the road at the busy intersection. The truck was turning onto Paisano Drive at the time, and Martinez did not wait for the appropriate pedestrian signal before stepping into the street. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

The EPPD’s investigation into the incident revealed that Martinez had crossed the street without yielding to the pedestrian signals. While the truck driver was not at fault for the accident, the police stressed the importance of following traffic signals for both drivers and pedestrians to ensure safety.

This marks the 17th traffic-related fatality in El Paso in 2025, compared to 14 traffic deaths at the same time the previous year. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing dangers of pedestrian accidents, particularly when traffic signals are ignored.

The El Paso Police Department continues to investigate the accident, and further details may be released as the investigation progresses.
