Judy Rusten Obituary, Death – Aneta resident Judy Rusten, 83, has been confirmed as the woman killed in a head-on collision that occurred Monday afternoon, May 5, north of Thompson, North Dakota.
Authorities say Rusten was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 29 around 1 p.m. in a Chevrolet Traverse when she collided head-on with a GMC Sierra driven by 42-year-old Joshua Bedard. Bedard sustained serious injuries and was taken to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for treatment.
The crash led to a temporary shutdown of the interstate for approximately two hours while investigators examined the scene.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that weather and road conditions were clear and favorable at the time of the crash. Bedard was wearing a seat belt, and his vehicle’s airbags deployed. Rusten, however, was not wearing a seat belt.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
