Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 65-year-old Elkmont woman early Sunday morning in Gadsden.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash occurred around 6 a.m. on February 15 along Riverview Drive near Tillison Road within Gadsden city limits in Etowah County.
Officials reported that Kathy N. Hamilton was driving a 2000 GMC 1500 when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a fence, and entered a nearby pond. Hamilton was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities said.
Two passengers were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Hali B. Bridges, 30, and Chance B. Bridges, 29, sustained injuries and were transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet provided additional details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
As part of standard procedure, investigators are expected to review roadway conditions, vehicle factors, and other relevant information to determine the sequence of events. No further information has been made available at this time.
Officials remind drivers to exercise caution, particularly during early morning hours when visibility and road conditions can present additional challenges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and updates will be released by ALEA as more information becomes available.
