Kenneth Christopher Cook Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man fatally shot by Stuart police during an officer-involved incident on Saturday morning.
The Stuart Police Department (SPD) reported that officers responded around 7 a.m. to Sierra Condominiums on Southeast Monterey Road after receiving reports of a man acting erratically while wielding a knife.
Upon arrival, an officer attempted to engage with the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Kenneth Christopher Cook. However, surveillance footage showed Cook suddenly sprinting toward the officer, prompting the officer to open fire due to the immediate threat.
Despite officers administering life-saving measures, Cook was transported by ambulance and later succumbed to his injuries.
Following department policy, the officer involved has been placed on leave while an investigation is conducted. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Officials have not released further details, and the investigation remains ongoing.
