Kristi Selwyn Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the individuals involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning in Charles Mix County, South Dakota. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported that the incident took place around 1:45 a.m. on a rural stretch of road. A Ford F-150 was heading north on 394th Avenue, approaching the intersection with 299th Street, roughly four miles south of Wagner, when the driver lost control.

The vehicle, driven by 44-year-old Kristi Selwyn of Yankton, reportedly veered off course. Officials say she overcorrected, which caused the truck to go into a yaw — a spinning movement — and eventually overturn.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Selwyn was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.

A passenger in the truck, identified as 47-year-old Dewey Cournoyer of Wagner, was also involved in the crash but sustained only minor injuries. He was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities have not yet determined what caused Selwyn to lose control of the vehicle. Weather conditions, speed, and other contributing factors are being considered as part of the ongoing review.

No further details have been released regarding the condition of the road, whether seatbelts were in use, or if any mechanical issues with the vehicle may have played a role.

The fatal crash has left the community mourning the loss of Kristi Selwyn, a Yankton resident. Friends and family are grieving as investigators work to piece together what led to the tragic accident.

As the investigation continues, the South Dakota Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash to contact authorities.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
