Lamar McKnight, Bradley Cunningham Obituary, Death – A tragic car crash in Newark earlier this month claimed six lives, five of whom have now been identified, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The crash occurred at 10:47 p.m. on a Friday night at the intersection of Raymond Boulevard and Blanchard Street.

Authorities report that the vehicle, carrying six people, was traveling along Raymond Boulevard toward the southbound on-ramp for Routes 1 & 9. The car veered off the road, became airborne, struck a support column for the Pulaski Skyway, and ultimately landed on the ground before bursting into flames. All six occupants, who were residents of Jersey City, died at the scene.

Five victims have been identified by the medical examiner: 31-year-old Lamar McKnight, who was driving the vehicle; 29-year-old Darryl McKnight; 22-year-old Darnell Carr; 41-year-old Bradley Cunningham; and 31-year-old Veronica Bailey. The identity of the sixth victim has not yet been released as DNA testing is still underway.

The crash has left a significant impact on the local community, especially since two of the victims, Lamar McKnight and Bradley Cunningham, were high school football coaches in Jersey City. Their deaths have devastated the state’s close-knit football community, with New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin noting the profound loss felt by colleagues, students, and families.

New Jersey State Senator Angela McKnight revealed that two of the victims, Lamar and Darryl McKnight, were her relatives. She described them as brothers who had touched the lives of many within their family and the broader community.

“Lamar and Darryl were two brothers who brought joy and inspiration to countless people,” Senator McKnight shared. “Their loss leaves an immeasurable hole in our hearts that words cannot fully express.”

The senator also extended condolences to the families and friends of the other victims, calling for the memory of each individual to be honored for the happiness they brought into the lives of those around them.

The incident has cast a shadow over the region, with residents mourning the lives lost and reflecting on the vibrant contributions of the victims to their communities.
