Lana Arbogast Obituary, Death – The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died following a two-vehicle crash in Colorado Springs’ Briargate area as 74-year-old Lana Arbogast.
The collision occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 29. According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers were dispatched around 10 a.m. to the intersection of North Union Boulevard and Research Parkway in response to reports of a serious crash.
When authorities arrived at the scene, members of the Colorado Springs Fire Department and AMR were already tending to Arbogast, who had been driving a Hyundai involved in the collision. She had sustained critical injuries and was quickly transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
CSPD investigators determined that Arbogast had been heading east on Research Parkway and was attempting to make a left-hand turn to go north onto Union Boulevard. At the same time, an Audi Q7 was traveling west on Research Parkway and had the right of way, proceeding through the intersection under a green light.
Arbogast, who had a flashing yellow left-turn signal, entered the intersection and was struck on the passenger side of her vehicle by the oncoming Audi. The impact caused significant damage and led to the life-threatening injuries that ultimately resulted in her death.
Despite being hospitalized and receiving care, Arbogast passed away from her injuries on Friday, July 4, nearly a week after the crash occurred.
Police have not released the name of the Audi driver and have not indicated whether any charges or citations will be issued. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are continuing to gather evidence and witness statements.
CSPD noted that this incident marks the 21st traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs so far in 2025. For comparison, at this same point in 2024, the city had recorded 30 traffic deaths, highlighting a slight improvement in overall road safety year-to-date.
The loss of Arbogast has resonated deeply in the community, particularly among those in the Briargate area. She is being remembered as a kind and warm individual, and her sudden passing has left friends, family, and neighbors grieving.
Officials continue to urge drivers to exercise caution at intersections, especially when turning across lanes of oncoming traffic. Left turns, even when permitted, can be dangerous if not made with care and full awareness of oncoming vehicles.
As the investigation continues, the Colorado Springs Police Department may provide further updates. In the meantime, road safety advocates are reminding drivers of the importance of obeying traffic signals and driving defensively to help prevent similar tragedies.
