Lance Carrington – The Howard County Police Department (HCPD) is seeking assistance from the public in their investigation into the death of a 17-year-old boy who was found in a vehicle on the evening of January 14, 2025.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on that day, officers responded to a suspicious call in the 6000 block of Helen Dorsey Way in Columbia. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Lance Carrington, a resident of Columbia, deceased in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. The young man had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
HCPD detectives are working under the assumption that the shooting was targeted, and it may be related to drug activity. However, the exact timing of the incident is still under investigation. As of Thursday, law enforcement officials have not released any information about potential suspects.
Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge about the events leading up to the shooting to come forward. They are encouraging people to contact the police at 410-313-STOP or to send an anonymous tip via email to HCPDCrimeTips@howardcountymd.gov. To encourage cooperation, the Howard County Police Department is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for tips that lead to an arrest.
