Landon Ray Obituary, Death – A fatal four-vehicle crash on Parkway East early Monday morning resulted in one death and significant traffic disruptions, according to state police. The collision occurred near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Pittsburgh at approximately 1:50 a.m., shutting down the inbound lanes for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause.

Authorities reported that the crash was initiated by a speeding silver Corvette, driven by Donald Lewis. The Corvette collided with a Honda Civic, driven by Landon Ray, with the impact forcing the Civic into two other vehicles.

Emergency responders had to extricate Ray from his car before transporting him to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police have not yet released details regarding the ages or hometowns of Ray or Lewis.

The occupants of the other vehicles sustained injuries but were treated at the scene, according to officials. Their conditions were not immediately disclosed.

The crash caused a significant traffic backup, with vehicles halted before the Squirrel Hill Tunnel while authorities conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the roadway. The highway was eventually reopened around 5:45 a.m., according to Steve Cowan, a spokesperson for PennDOT.

This stretch of Parkway East is a heavily traveled route, with approximately 85,000 vehicles passing through daily, as reported by PennDOT traffic maps. The incident underscores the dangers of excessive speed on high-traffic roadways.

Police have not provided further details on potential charges or ongoing investigations related to the crash. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
