Lauree Jankowski Obituary, Death News – A woman was fatally shot by a Columbus police officer on Saturday evening after she allegedly attacked another officer with a knife, according to the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP).

The incident took place around 5 p.m. while officers were carrying out an investigation in the area. During the course of their work, 33-year-old Lauree Jankowski reportedly assaulted one of the officers with a knife. In response, another officer opened fire and struck Jankowski, NSP said.

Authorities reported that officers at the scene provided immediate medical assistance, but despite their efforts, Jankowski was pronounced dead on site.

The officer who was attacked sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the officer was released later the same evening, according to the state patrol.

A knife, which officials say was used in the attack, was recovered at the scene by investigators.

The Nebraska State Patrol has taken over the investigation into the shooting, as is standard protocol in such incidents. In accordance with Nebraska law, a grand jury will also review the case to determine whether the officers’ actions were legally justified.
