Lucy Gurganus Obituary, Death: The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the individuals involved in a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend in Beaufort County.
The accident took place on Saturday around 1:50 p.m. on Highway 264 near Goose Creek Road. According to troopers, 70-year-old John Wiggins from Goldsboro was driving his GMC Yukon westbound on Highway 264 when he crossed the centerline. Wiggins’ vehicle then veered off the road to the left, re-entered the roadway, and collided with an eastbound Chrysler van.
The van, driven by 67-year-old Lucy Gurganus from Washington, was struck in the crash, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Ethan Crawford, an 18-year-old from Washington who was seated in the passenger seat of the van, sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.
John Wiggins was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving left of center, and careless and reckless driving in connection with the accident.
