Lynn Foley Obituary, Death – The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash involving a CSX train and a vehicle near Citra, Florida, as 43-year-old Lynn Foley, who was from the area. Authorities released her name on January 21, following the tragic incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday, January 19.

The collision occurred around Northeast 180th Street, just east of U.S. 301, in an area that ends in a private driveway, located just east of Northeast 24th Avenue in Citra. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the CSX train, which was hauling freight, had 106 cars and was traveling south. The train operators noticed headlights on a vehicle, a Honda CRV SUV, positioned on the tracks and sounded the horn to warn the driver. However, the vehicle was stuck on the tracks, and the train was unable to stop in time.

FHP officials confirmed that the train was traveling at an estimated speed of 40 mph when it struck the SUV. At the time of the crash, two other individuals—a 59-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman—were also inside the vehicle. They managed to exit the SUV and attempt to find help, leaving Foley behind in the vehicle. When the train hit the SUV, Foley was on the driver’s side, and the force of the impact threw the vehicle approximately half a mile from the point of collision, while Foley herself was thrown a quarter of a mile. Surveillance video and evidence from the scene indicated that the SUV’s doors were open at the time of the crash.

Troopers investigating the incident are still trying to determine why Foley remained in the vehicle instead of leaving, and they are awaiting the results of a toxicology report to shed more light on the circumstances. Authorities have not yet released the names of the man and woman who were with Foley prior to the crash, though they have confirmed that all three were residents of Citra. The SUV involved in the crash is registered to one of the individuals who were inside the vehicle, but authorities have declined to disclose which one.

The collision marks the first traffic fatality in Marion County for the year 2025. In 2024, the Florida Highway Patrol recorded a total of 100 traffic fatalities in the area. First responders, including the Marion County Fire Rescue, were dispatched to the scene at 1:44 a.m., and they arrived on the scene just a minute later. Foley was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full details of the incident. While they have confirmed that the victim and the other individuals involved knew each other and lived in Citra, further inquiries are still being made to understand why Foley did not leave the vehicle before the train arrived.
